Family….

Every year I think I might get a fancy new scheme for my tree with beautiful new ornaments that all coordinate and are a certain color….

but then I think about all of the ornaments that I’ve known basically my whole life…

and I just can’t do it.

There are ornaments from my grandparents tree,  my mothers tree, and from every year that my children have been alive.

There are so many that I can’t fit them all on here…

crosses made from pieces of pasta, cut-out construction paper with pictures of my kids on them, ornaments engraved with the names & birth dates of every member of our family…

My Christmas tree is a timeline of my life and I can’t imagine it being any other way.

Mom, how old is this ornament?  1940’s?  50’s?

DSCN6082

And these glass bells?  I’m thinking the 30’s or 40’s?

The gold ornament on the left my mom gave me one of my first Christmases away from home.

I made this when I first learned to cross-stitch.  I was 14, so that was 1987.

This one’s getting old and wrinkly, but I made this when I was nine years old in 1982.

The horse on the right, my grandma made in the early 80’s

and the train is one my mom made for one of the kids in the 90’s.

My mom made for me in 2006.

And one of her newest contributions from this year.

And an angel named “Debbie”….

DSCN6074

The other girls weren’t really interested in helping with the tree, but Amelia is her definitely her mother’s daughter because she was more than ready to help.  She LOVES Christmas.

She’s so funny too.

She pulled out our angel (that we’ve had for probably 15 years) and said,

“Time to put Debbie on top of the tree!”

I said, “Debbie?  Why would you call her Debbie?”

She looked at me like I was crazy and said like DUH,

“Because that’s her name.”

Sooo…. Debbie is nestled on top of the tree where she belongs and the tree looks beautiful.

DSCN6078 Can you tell she LOVES the tree? :)

Courtney 12/91

Baby Courtney

A snippet of video I found of Courtney from when she was just a few days old.
Hard to believe she will legally be a woman in a few weeks. :(

Meanwhile, on the other coast....

Thanksgiving afternoon

A nice cozy Thanksgiving…

DSCN6064

DSCN6061

The turkey is done, we’re just waiting on the potatoes.

We’re all still in our pajamas and have Christmas music playing in the background

(YES), you heard that right.

It’s cozy and intimate.  Just me and my beauties.

Tradition

Some people have fancy, stuffy Thanksgiving dinners,
but MY favorite part of Thanksgiving is the cozy family time.
After the turkey is in the oven,
We pull out the appetizers and make a big pot of
velveeta dip and lay around in our pajamas and comfy clothes
to watch the Macy's parade.
Here are my comfy girls all settled in for family time....
of course Courtney isn't too thrilled about me recording this moment for posterity. :)
Trust me, she's under that hoodie somewhere.

Courtney & her boy

Maddie,
Courtney & Josh.
He's actually a very nice young man,
who is in the air force
(military police to be exact).
Nice guy and I'm happy for her at this point in time.
He'll be coming up again after Christmas

God bless IHOP

A table for Amelia

DSCN6057

Amelia has been very stressed about the fact that we gave up our table when we moved.  I had planned to buy a new one but just haven’t been able to.

Well…

With Thanksgiving approaching, needless to say I was hearing about it every single day.  So yesterday we went and bought a table so that we can have Thanksgiving dinner together as a family and now I have a very happy girl!

Just dropping by to say hello!

Heard a weird sound...
kind of like a dragon breathing!
So we run to the windows and
look what we found!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

I know it's hard to see from these pics,
but the palm trees are all decorated with Christmas lights
and look GORGEOUS!!

Lake Pleasant

but it's all we got!)
